病房里的每个孩子们都渴望重返校园
这些孩子在面对健康挑战的同时,也被学业上的难题所困扰。橡树学院通过提供在线语文、数学和英语课程,以及注重陪伴和素质教育的习惯课和心理辅导课程,帮助这些孩子在学业上保持进步。
我们的目标是为这些孩子重返校园做好全方位的准备,不仅在学术上,更在心理和社交层面上提供必要的支持和陪伴。
我们深信每个孩子都值得拥有完整的教育体验,即使在面对生命中最艰难的挑战时。

项目故事
一堂语文课上,义工老师邱意琳正在讲授书信的发展历史、意义与作用。意琳老师带着小兰一步步梳理着书信写作的流程:称呼、问候语、正文、祝福语、落款、信封。“书信可以写给任何人,比如自己、朋友、家人、陌生人、未来的自己、过世的老人……”意琳老师尽力把写作对象想得多元。练习时间到了,小兰的写作对象让人出乎意料,完全没有被老师给出的例子所限制。

小兰是患有白血病的孩子,在EWB支持的青岛新阳光病房学校度过了一年的时光,现已顺利毕业了。在我国,白血病是发病率最高的儿童肿瘤,0-14岁儿童白血病发病率34.3/百万。其中,70 – 80%的患儿可以治愈,但治疗年限长,有的长达5年。化疗是儿童白血病最主要的治疗手段之一,治疗强度较高,对孩子来说是很大的挑战。
死亡是成年人避而不谈的话题,这是因为我们对死亡或多或少有些恐惧。然而,小兰的好奇却大于恐惧。天使与恶魔到底长什么样子?他们互相认识吗?他们是好朋友吗?他们也像我们人一样需要吃饭吗?如果他们和我口味一样,我愿意分享食物呀!吃了能长生不老的唐僧肉我已经试过了,《西游记》不要骗我呀,我可不是好欺负的!都说强扭的瓜不甜,可我偏偏就不愿按套路出牌!字里行间,流露的是小兰不卑不亢、坚韧乐观的态度。
Project Description:
EWB Ward Teaching Site was established in 2019 in cooperation with the Ward Teaching Site project under the Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation. It is dedicated to helping Chinese children aged 3-14 years old who have been hospitalized for a long time. The teaching site addresses the problems of social isolation, psychological depression, and stagnant development of their abilities brought about by long-term hospitalization. It provides educational projects, developmental projects, individualized counseling and experiential activities for children in and out of the hospital so that they can return to society more smoothly after 2-3 years of treatment. There are now three teaching sites in Inner Mongolia, Shenzhen and Qingdao. In December 2021, EWB was awarded the “Five Star Volunteer Group” by Beijing New Sunshine Charity Foundation.
Target Children:
Children in wards with long-term hospitalization who need educational and psychological support to prepare for a successful return to school after recovery.
Project Origin:
In March 2019, a current member of the executive board, Zhu Lin, learned about the Beijing New Sunlight Foundation Charitable Foundation’s Ward Teaching Site Project by chance. The project creates a school-like space inside and outside the hospital, distinct from the hospital, to provide free education and related services to children with serious illnesses, represented by children with leukemia who are hospitalized for long periods of time.
To fill the shortage of educational opportunities for children in recovery before they return to school, EWB has partnered with New Sunshine Inner Mongolia Ward Teaching Site to open the first Ward Teaching Site in 2019 after months of discussion and planning.
Due to the specific nature of the physical state of children with leukemia, chemotherapy and puncture accompany the children at every treatment. The children who enter the Ward Teaching Site have finished chemotherapy for six months to a year and are in a stable physical condition for their courses.
At EWB, children who have been out of school due to illness are given a chance to adjust to school life by providing not only test-taking classes in language, Maths and English but also an opportunity to socialize with peers in the outside world.
With the polished and upgraded course quality and model, EWB’s public service has been unanimously recognized by partners and parents. In 2020 and 2021, EWB opened Shenzhen Ward and Qingdao Ward one after another. EWB Ward Teaching Site was also established.
Featured Story: Ward Teaching Site Dance Workshop Day
In April 2021, EWB partnered with ZEAL Dance in Macau to offer a month-long dance workshop class for the children of the Ward Teaching Site. The classes are taught in a one-on-one online format, with live instruction by dance instructors.
The children of the Ward Teaching Site are home from school or hospitalized for a long time due to illness. When it comes to their knowledge and understanding of dance, they basically come from performances on TV or in movies. Therefore, we hope that through this activity, the children can have a basic understanding of what dance is, be able to express themselves through dance, and enjoy the joy brought by dancing.
Xiaojun had never had experience with dance before, so he was not very interested in the first class, but he still took the class very seriously. After the second class, Xiaojun told us, “I like dance class quite a lot.”
“I was pleasantly surprised to see this transformation of Xiaojun because his attitude toward new things slowly changes from non-accepting to willing to try. She can open herself to more exploration. Also, I am very grateful for the patience of the dance teacher, Abao. Ms. Abao is very experienced and gives children enough time to try new experiences.” Xiaojun’s Little Parent, Wen Xi, said.

Project Outcomes:
In 2021, the Ward Teaching Site had 75 volunteer teachers and 17 Little Parent Teachers and served a total of 41 children, 17 of whom successfully completed their classes from EWB and returned to school, accumulating over 5,500 hours of instruction.

Leaders’ Visions:
Over the past three years, the Ward Teaching Site has grown rapidly and now operates three teaching sites, which have been well received by the school teachers, parents and students. In the coming year, the Ward Teaching Site will improve all aspects of the existing sites in terms of teaching quality, volunteer management, and educational support system for ward children. As for volunteer teachers, we plan to start with recruitment and training to optimize the teaching ability and work experience of our volunteers. In terms of students, we will design a curriculum suitable for student development based on the latest portrait of ward children. We believe that the deep work in 2022 will lay a good foundation for the better development of the Ward Teaching Site in the future.
